The standings for the season have finally been decided and the Railroaders take the 2 seat for the Playoffs. What a ride! It came down to the last day of the seasonal play to get there, too. Congrats to the team for a great finish and fine win against the Bobcats. Now the guys have 2 days to rest up and get ready for the tough Post Season Playoff series in round 2 with either the Oilers or Firebirds (I stand corrected from my first posting when I thought it was UC or Marion we would face). Both these teams will mean business when go at it on Monday the round 1, single game elimination in Owensboro. Then on Tuesday, the winner will be hosting the Railroaders for the first game in the best of 3 games, round 2. The second game, and third if necessary, will be played in Fulton at the Yard.
The Railroaders are a little thin in the ranks going into the Playoffs, but their spirit is strong and you can see it in their eyes as they played on Saturday. And as Boilerstoker pointed out, had we not won the game, the Oilers would have taken the 2nd seed by their sweeping of the Hounds in Union City on the same night. I must admit I was a Greyhound fan for a while, hoping they would take out the Oilers for at least one game to ensure our 2nd place position. But our players knew if they won, there would be nothing the Oilers could do to stop them from securing the 2nd top standing for 2008’s regular season. They did just that and I’m extremely proud of everyone of them. I believe in the upcoming Playoffs they have a lot more to show us too. Go get’em Railroaders!
BTW, Marlene is as tickled as can be and is wondering if any of the players don't have a girl friend.

I was just curious. I figured a first round bye meant home field. Why will the RRs have to play on the road for their first game, regardless of the second 2 games?
ReplyDeleteThe League provides the lower seeded teams in Rounds 2 & 3 of the playoffs to have 1 of the 3 games in their town. That being the policy, the first game of the 3 series is play in the lower seed's park, so the higher seeded team can have the chance to win the round at home, whether it be in the 2rd or 3rd game if needed.
ReplyDeleteand give us lots more reason to fire it up in the yard!!!
ReplyDeleteHey Kirsey,Marlow, Hall good pitching last night,
ReplyDeleteMarlow-nice hairdo dude
did Hunter cut it for ya?
Pitching did a nice job last night. Congrats to all three!
ReplyDeleteYes, the pitching was good, and there were several great defensive plays to help. JD, Elloit, and Kimbell did outstanding running down flys and line drives. It was really something to watch! JD has that tricky RF down pat.
ReplyDeleteThat's the stupid thins I've ever heard, making the best seed start out on the road....dumb, dumb, dumb. You never make someone do this. It should be home, road, home. Who in the blazes came up with this? This league is bush, in more ways than one. What's the incentive for being a 1 or 2? Oh boy, we get to start on the road! Dumb.......
ReplyDeleteI understand what you saying and it should be noted that this is the first year the league is doing this. Last year it was home, away, home. The club owners voted to change it this year.
ReplyDeleteKirksey was great the other night. I noticed a new tattoo on the back his neck maybe this brought him some luck.
ReplyDeletevote------who do we want? owensboro or farmigton?
ReplyDeletegotta have Owensboro, although it would be sweet for Farmington to beat the oilers
ReplyDeleteFarmington could be the cinderella team and create some upsets, o boro has got to have their pitching beat up after the doubleheader in uc. We will def have a advantage getting the extra day off(lets Hope)
ReplyDeleteI think the sleeper could be Marion if they beat UC. They have been hot. Tradewater, though, is pretty set with some rested pitchers. Who knows........
ReplyDeleteWell Its going to be the oilers we have to handle, looks like they have ended the Firebirds season, Ok guys lets gt pumped, fired up and ready to ROLL, Oilers are a good team too, they have had ups and downs as have we all,Lets just have our UP and Oilers there Down as we enter the series! Marion has set the Greyhounds down and they will go on to Face the Pirates,Ohh and congrads to the Pirates on winning the 08 Pennant! BUt now we are in the playoffs and this Train can Roll on to the top!We have what it takes,Talent and Heart!
ReplyDeleteRoll Train
well, well looks like last years champs are out. The greyhounds fall to the bobcats of Marion. 2 teams down, 2 to go.
ReplyDeleteI hear the Oilers think they have what it takes, with some pitching not used? We will see?
ReplyDeleteI would think they have used what they have to get to where they are,the doubleheader in UC had to strethem out, like you said we will see.

ReplyDeletewhy would marion be a sleeper and by the way, they are not hot. losing the last two games going into the playoffs does not mean you are hot. and tradewater will beat the heck out of them. their pitching is too good.
ReplyDeleteyou are right about the Bobcats. its going to be tradewater and Fulton in the final series,O boro are out of players and whipped down.
ReplyDeleteI imagine the away, home, home format probably has to do a lot with travel costs. One bus trip per team is a lot cheaper than two.
ReplyDeleteI think it would be better to play a tourney that is random draw at the end of the season, and make it single elim. The regular season is over, and the champ is the champ. With a single elim in post season, everyone has a shot, and you could give teams 1-2 days off after the reg season is over, and then play the post season over just two days, maybe in one location.

Thanks for having the games broadcast over the internet this season. It has been fun listening to them and everyone did a good job with the broadcasting.
ReplyDeleteCoach Estes, it will be good to have you back in the STL area soon.
Nice season Roaders. Best wishes until next year.
