Give me a break!

You know, sometimes in baseball there are disappointments. Then there are those times when something is not only a disappointment but there’s a gut feeling that something wrong is going on. It seemed that way in the Railroaders’ unfortunate demise on Saturday in Sikeston. The sorely needed light rain was just what VFW Memorial Field needed, and it helped keep the players and fans cooled off. It seems everyone benefited from the moisture for 3 full innings as the ballgame continued to be played. Of course, the ultimate benefactor was the Bulls pitcher, who finally got into trouble in the 8th inning. His hot arm was cooling down, he allowed a hit, walked a batter, hit a third and loaded the bases with nobody out. What would you do?

We know what he choose, and it wasn’t to continue a battle he thought he was about to lose. Call it what you will, but be careful never to do the same. One thing we learned for sure, we know he can’t throw a spitball.

Another thing we learned tonight, we’re never out of a game. The Railroaders did what they had to and were positioned to gain the lead. They did not lose the game at the final score, it was taken from them. And the departure antics by the Railroaders after the game had been called; they delighted the young and old alike, and eased the anger of the injustice served to Fulton.

One more game with the Bulls, let’s finish the job and get ready for the Pirates. The Dogs lost they game, the standing remain the same. Fire up the engine!

  1. Things that make ya say Hmmmmm..........I have to agree with ya HOggy,The crew got themselfs behind,by a run, mostly because of a great outing by Lawson.but battle back they did and were about to take controll with bases loaded no out and Lawson in deep trouble and knowing it,with Getsee,Stoupa,Cordell on the bags and Hatfield at the plate.Opps time to stop this game,no conditioner on the mound even,Ok time for a couple famous quotes ..There no crying in baseball,so I wont, but that was a shame.. You hit the ball you catch the ball you throw the ball, sometimes ya win, sometimes ya loose..sometimes it Rains.....and rain it did.not heavy at the time but it was there. Congrads to the Bulls, lets move on and stay focused on the light at the ever shortning tunnel
Get a W from the Steers tonight and welcome the Pirates to our place Tuesday night--come on out fans and cheer our guys on!

  2. I am a bulls fan, but what took place last night I believe at the time was the right thing to do. Lawson had his left foot move or slipped when he loaded the bases. If it had been the your pitcher I would have agreed to halt the game the same. Both pitchers pitched well. I would have hated to see either pitcher get injured. The railroaders have a good team and injoy watching good baseball. Thanks

  3. Yes, no one wants to see a player get hurt. However, the rain had been coming down for 3 innings and there didn’t appear that anything was wrong during that time. Id does make you wonder if the problem really was a slipperly mound. We accept the loss, but let’s be honest, it was a questionable move at just the right moment when things seemed to be going sour for Lawson. It was a good game, too bad it was stopped short.

  4. The game last night should have never started in the 8th. That is when the rain really started coming down. I don't know what game you guys were watching but it had not been raining for 3 innings. I feel the way Lawson had been pitching the entire game the bases would not have been loaded had it not been for the rain. Both pitchers threw a great game. If you know the Lawson kid you would know that he does not quit. He is not afraid to lose. So for hoghead to say that he quit is far from the truth. Don't go attacking someones character when you don't even know the person.

  5. I was at the game last evening and the rain didn't start until the 7th inning. The game should have been rain delayed at the end of the 7th inning and waited to see what the weather was going to do. I agree it was a great game and both pitchers were doing well. I only wish we could have played all 9 innings to see the outcome.

  6. It was not my intention to attack Lawson’s character and I apologize if it was taken so. Had the shoe been on the other foot, I’m sure the Bulls would have felt robbed of a chance finish the game. If the game had been stopped before the 8th got started, we probably wouldn’t be having this discussion. Please be aware that this was the second game the Railroaders have had this season with similar circumstances, and frankly it’s irritating for the fans and players to have their feet knocked out from under them. So sorry for any hurt feelings, I suppose we are trying to share a little of it.

  7. If the Bulls could at least go to walmart and get a couple construction tarps to lay on the mound and around home plate, maybe they could continue to play after a little rain.Little league teams even have those.Granted the rain didnt stop saturday night, but this could save some games in the future.

  9. Yeah, don't get mad because your 14th round draft pick couldn't beat the Bulls juco pitcher.

  10. We're not going to cry because we actually have a chance at winning the league, while you all are still 6 GB.. Happy trails!!

  12. The bulls are 6 GB? Thank goodness they have already clinched a playoff spot. just like every other team in the league.

  13. Doesnt mean they get a free pass in the first round.. thats what the better teams are playing for....

  14. Better teams.....record wise you are better but people wise you are not. You need to treat people the way you would want to be treated. Your team is very nice when you win but not so nice when you lose...in fact down right RUDE.

  15. You think so? I think every team has a few RUDE folks, but most are not.
