Looking into my crystal ball, the smoke hasn’t cleared yet and the road trip could have been better, but the wins at the end keep us in contention for the pennant. The train is back on the track and running smoothly. So where are we at and what's the situation look like? The first thing to examine is the league leader, the Tradewater Pirates. They have 8 games left in the season and with a 3 game lead in 1st their magic number is 7 to clinch the pennant. But, that 3 game lead is over the 2nd place Oilers who are sliding into Tradewater for a 3 game series with the Pirates beginning today, Thursday. So when the smoke clears on Saturday, the pennant picture will look a little different.
Where does that leave us? We are 4 games back with 8 games left. The Hounds are in town for 3 games. It’s simple, we win and we gain ground on the loser at Tradewater and keep pace with the winner. There are several combinations in the outcome, but again, we win and we’re in it. Let’s remember, after the All Star break the Pirates are coming into the Yard for 2 games, and we still have a PPD game with the Oilers in Owensboro to make up. That accounts for 6 of our total 8 games left, the last 2 are at home with the Bobcats. With a little help, we have a good chance to take this thing. We just need to win!
UPDATE: As the time gets closer to the game, I can see the cause for the smoke in the distance. I guess the boys are heading home all fired up and ready to roll. We’ll need everyone to help stoke the fire and keep the engine at full steam. So head on out to the Yard for some baseball, it’s going to be exciting. You can count on it!

Nice thinking, but by the time the Pirates hit town, they'll be throwing off, and could care less about us. Reality check time.
ReplyDeleteman...I really like the positive talk and self-confidence you have in those Railroaders........

A better spelling would be Red SOX. But who spells anyways.
ReplyDeletewe need a bigger crowd friday night.

ReplyDeleteIf you like watching the baseball fly around from some hot bats, last night was a great game, and the best part was our guys were Fired up and got that 1st victory in this 3 game series. Tonight should be another great game, come out to the yard and lets keep this railroader crew fired up and rolling ,making that light at the end of the tunnel for the hounds a big ole train
Roll Train!!
Hoggie, things are going south. We better start looking at 2009.
ReplyDelete2009?????? The playoffs are a brand new ballgame, even after tonight, we didnt get hit hard much, there was just alot of bloop hits and tweener singles. With a few timely hits t would have been a different ballgame.
ReplyDeleteIts so funny how quickly people lose faith, and how many fans are bandwagoners. When things are going well were the best team in the league, and if we lose a few, once we have a few players out and a few players hurt, we mid as well bang the season and look to start recruiting for next year. If fisher doesn't believe in this team, then pack it in and dont come back to the yard.
The Railroaders are gonna bring home a title, you wait and see.

well after last nights loss to Union City, Tradewaters magic number to clinch the title is 2. With a 5 game lead and only 6 games remaining. The fight will be for 2nd place, a dead heat for owensboro and fulton. Go RRs
ReplyDeleteIt appears we now need to focus on securing 2nd seed for the upcoming playoffs. The magic number for the Pirates is now 3 and will likely get the 1st seed and pennant for the regular season. But the playoffs are another story and a title still ready to be had. I would like to point out that no team is perfect and has its ups and downs during a season. When I look at the Railroaders, I see a good team and a team more than able to win one of the 2 Championship titles offered by the Kitty League. I fact, I see four of the six teams in strong contention and two that can cause trouble for the others. So there’s still a lot of excitement to come over the next few weeks, and I’ll be there to see it played. For now, let’s fire it up and take this last game with the Hounds and send them to fight with the Cats and chew up the Oilers. We’ve got 4 more home games after tonight and the Pirates are next for 2. Let get back to work, Railroaders!
ReplyDeletewhat was the deal with hayes tonight? was he throwing at people?
ReplyDeletesure looked like it, hopefully not, but he had bead on meinharts helmet twice
