Season Pennant still up for Grab

The Pirates have sailed away and "so what" if they left us with a bloody nose. But they’ll be back in less than 2 weeks for 2 more games. It will be our chance to even our season record with them. For the present, the current 6 game road trip takes the Railroaders to Owensboro to face off with the 2nd place Oilers. They are only a half game ahead of us, it’s time to gain ground and move back into the 2nd spot.

So what’s the rest of the season look like?

We are about to round the bend with 13 games left going into Owensboro. After the 3 set with the Oilers, the guys head for Marion for another 3 games with the Bobcats. That puts us down to 7 games to go and every one of them at home in the Yard. First will be the Greyhounds, this coming Thursday, for 3 nights of howling fun. The All Star break will suspend season play for 3 days, then the Pirates return to the Yard for the final 2 regular season meetings with them. We will complete our last 2 season games with the Bobcats with post season playoffs beginning after a day off.

The pennant is still up for grabs. Some don’t think we have what it take to grab it. Others are hopeful and supportive but are concerned over mistakes we’ve made that cost us games. Well, every team makes them. I’ll bet we’re not the worse in the league on errors per game. All we need to do is shake it off and get to work. Keep pace with the Pirates and overtake the Oilers. We’re only 2 behind the lead after 37 games and with 2 more Pirate games before the season’s end. Let’s fire up the engine and roll, train!

  1. After the first 2 games at Owensboro, I think we've had a derail. We're still 2 behind the Pirates, but now the Oilers are a 2 1/2 ahead in First Place. OK guys, time to get this train back on the tracks! The Dogs and Cats are getting closing too!

  3. well, well looks like the oilers are making a run and the roaders are making one to,straight to the ol'e scrap heap where they retire old trains. dont think the boys have what it takes to finish. too many mental mistakes, trying to be the hero etc.i talked to boxcar yesterday and he said the rr's were just a flash and the games that they won, it was just luck. they have been out coached and out played by better players that want to win.marion's on a roll and we have to play them next,uc is coming on strong and they come to town next week and they will be looking to put the fire in the boiler out for good. i noticed that a couple of the other teams have added a player or two to take care of the injury factor. what are the rr's doing? i know there are some good players that would love to come and help out but you have to make the call coach...i think the big hook is in town next week to pick up some rr cars might have them stop by the yard and get the rest of the derail.might leave the caboose so the team will have a ride.

  4. With 6 unearned Bobcat runs winning the game, seems we're beating ourselves up!

-Not very many great collegiate ball players sitting around waiting for a summer club to call in July to replace an injured player!

Took UC 10 innings to beat the birds-don't know that I would define that as "coming on strong."

Marion and Tradewater had three errors a piece....mmmm

  6. It takes more than luck to win over twenty games this far into the season. How can you bail out on the roaders with so much time left to go in the summer. Every team goes through tough spots in a season and great teams pick themselves back up and I believe the roaders will do that. Also its easy to talk smack behind a computer. Out coached and out played? Have you seen Farmington's and Marion's coaches? Also Union City's Coach is Coach E's brobrah. I hardly think the roaders are being out played, they are just going through a tough spell. So save the smack talk for after the season.

    Deal With It!

  9. The errors are killing us! It has got to stop. Losing in the bottom of the 9th? 10 games left in the season and 3 1/2 back. We can't wait any longer to turn this train around. Let's get with the program, Railroaders!
