The Season's Drama is Over!

Wow! What a way to finish, down to the wire. It was truly a game and moment to remember. The Railroaders took this year’s largest crowd of fans on an electrifying and emotional roller coaster ride, one most fans wanted off of after 9 innings. But no! The boys gave us one more loop before taking possession of the pennant. Although a few fans knew and didn’t talk of it, the Greyhounds were at Oilers and had beaten them twice in a doubleheader which forced us into a must win situation to take first place in regular season play. The Bulls did not go easily in the good night, and showed they are a force to be dealt with. The thrills had many fans going behind the grandstand in fear of watching. I know I buried my face in the dirt under the grandstand where I was required to watch from.

While every player deserves credit for a great game and season, there are two I would like to point out from last night’s game. First Allen Bolden, who didn’t even get a hit on the evening, but his run scored in the bottom of 8th was the saving grace of the game. After walking, stealing second, and sneaking over to 3rd while the Bulls wandered back to their positions, Allen took home on a wild pitch that gave us our 5th run. All this with 1 out, the Railroaders failing to get a single hit or another man on in the inning. That run prevented us from losing the game in the 9th after the Bulls scored 3 to tie us. Good job Allen, it was a thing to behold!

Secondly, Cory Hoskins, who has my vote for game MVP. Cory was 3 for 5 which included a double and bunt single to produce the game winning RBI. He stole 1 base, scored 2 runs and executed his play when it was needed the most. We’ve had some trouble this season in bunting, but Cory got it prefect in the last play of the game. A moment everyone present will remember all their lifes.

One more thing, I commend Arron Varnum for picking himself back up after his error in the 9th. His composure in the 10th inning after such an event is noteworthy, something we all should remember. If you make a mistake, get back up and go on. Thanks Railroaders for a Great Season!

Now on to the PLAYOFFS . . . to be continued.

  2. It just doesn't get any better than last night. A win in extra innings of a "must-win" game to take the Pennant. The only problem, it was a little hard to breath sometimes due to how tight things were.

I've said here before, we have a class organization. That class, teamsmanship and can-do attitude brought the key win home to the Railroaders. Last Pennant was in 1953??

Way to go manager, coaches and team members. Now, lot's use that same spirit to clench the playoffs to round out a great season.

  3. What a great team effort last night from top to bottom. It took great plays in the field. Lots of great hitting against a stubborn Bulls team and some heroics at the end to pull it out. I thought the strike zone was the size of a quarter for both teams last night, so all the pitchers for both teams were great to gneerate that kind of close game. And not much as been said about the early runs scored, key hits and sacrifices at times they had to happen. Also lots of great catches in the outfield to keep down mutli base hits and very solid infield overall.

Congratulations to everyone, but the most fun was seeing how these players have come together, created life long memories together and accomplished something great, regardless of what happens from this point forward.

  4. Looks like the Bulls must be sore losers, since they seem to want to design the playoffs their way. They couldn't beat us, so now they want to find a way around Tradewater. Pathetic.......
    (check their website out)

  5. Righto about Sikeston. They are a bunch of babies, and Puckett is the biggest. He shows that everytime he plays someone. They are the pits to play, and those sound effects! Man, how many times do they play them! They want their cake and to eat it too.
    Change yer diaper, Jamie!

  6. Think maybe it might be that the Bulls can't hit the bulleye? They win 'bout as often as the Phillies!
Send em over here to UC, and let us give a shot at the little man!
    Hell yeah!

  7. Wat does Sikeston think they are going to do about the playoffs?
    Win it? A joke........
They say on their site that they are waiting for Tradewater to send them a roster? The league makes the rules, not the Bulls. Maybe they should start their own league next year. It would suit me.

  11. You did dig deep enough, it's not there. Did you notice that Union City #2 is above Fulton #1 in listing the playoff games. Makes you wonder, huh.

  14. I got to agree with you. Those Bulls came out of the gate tonight like a herd of wild Buffalo. I don't think their offense can be stopped. All you other Railroaders keep your fingers crossed and say alot of prayers. We need it.

  17. It's a shame with such a good team that the Railroaders "fans" posting comments here are showing such bad sportsmanship. You are embarrassing yourselves and your team.

  18. I tried to lay down and go to sleep for about the last 30 minutes but I can't get off my mind how well those Bulls have been playing this past week. How did they get so super charged? I just don't know how we will ever
stop the momentum they have going.

  20. Almost 2 a.m. and I still can't doze off. What are our Railroaders going to do tonight against the Bulls? The Bulls had 15 combined strickouts against the Pirates on Monday. What are we going to do?

  21. In response to the comment above, "It's a shame . . .", what are you talking about? And please remember that it's not only Railroader fans posting comments, there are some fans from other teams also. You must be a Union City fan, if not, you don't make much sense. If you are, I can understand why you are trying to "save face". Some Union City fans have always been the way they are, can't help it, they were raised that way. They are either bad winners or sore losers, and have always thought they were above everyone else. They just live in their own world. The only bad sportsmanship I see is south of the border.

  22. the last time that tonight's starter for the bulls faced fulton at sikeston, he threw a 9 inning shutout. and tomorrow, the bulls have their #1 on the mound at fulton. it might not be as easy as everyone thinks. the bulls seem to put that 225 foot little league fence to their advantage.
