And then there were 2 . .

With the help of all hands, the last Bull finally got loaded aboard and the train is taking them back to Sikeston. They turned out to be a tough bunch to handle at times, but they’ll be safely bedded down for the off season. I’m sure they’ll be ready to run strong again next year, as well as the Oilers who ended their playoffs last night losing to the Greyhounds. Now the stage is set.

What a weekend ahead! I see the Greyhounds have requested Fulton’s assistance in using Lohaus Field for hosting Friday’s game. Seems they previously scheduled some puppy training at Elam Stadium on that date and need a place for the Hounds to play. I have conferred with the Railroader owners and can find no reason not to allow the dogs to play here. Why not! After all, they are our closest neighbors in the league and the second best team in the season. They can be the home team for Friday, too.

As for the Greyhound players themselves, they are a tough lot for sure. But I believe in the Railroaders ability to get the Hounds under control and put away. The fans? Well I hope the behavior in the stands is one of mutual respect. These 2 teams have worked hard to get where they are. It’s going to be a great contest and win or lose, there is going to be some fun baseball to close out the year. Let’s all meet out at the ballpark and cheer the Railroaders to victory!

  1. 3 of the Railroaders 4 wins with the Greyhounds came at home. Union City was 13-12 on the road this season, and 2-3 at Lohaus Field. Railroaders record at home this year was 17-9. I like the stats for the last playoff round.

  6. The fans are what make the team. Without the fans we are nothing. Thanks to the fans for all your support throughout the year. Hopefully U.C. fans can be as gracious as you are. I bet if roles were reversed U.C. would not let us use their field. They would make us forfeit, but not us. Again, sportsmanship. That will be what leads us to the title.

  9. Having just read the Union City Messenger, I don't think the fans in Union City are going to be any better than they are. In the paper Mr. Mike Hutchens gives 2 reasons why the game Friday is being held in Fulton, one being the Babe Ruth Tournament and the other, "..and Fulton's unwillingness to move the series up a day to tonight (Thursday) to accommodate the Greyhounds' plight, . ." Well Mr. Hutchens, we're only playing by the rules, just like the Greyhounds' management who forced the Railroaders to make up a rainout with the Oilers on a weekend when 5 games were already scheduled, causing the Railroaders to play 6 games in three days. The Oilers and Railroaders had a league approved day set to make that game up, but yet the Greyhounds, who weren't even involved in the situation, insisted the game be made up by the league bylaws. Why they would they do that? I wonder if those same bylaws, the Greyhound management wants to follow, could allow the Railroaders to force a forfeit from Union City's mistake. Don't make Fulton look like the bully here, look in the mirror!

  10. amen on the comment to the union city "RAG". there are some in union city that think they are better than others. they have rude fans, poor sportsmanship and rats...but in the paper the other day the comment was made that fulton was worst to first. didnt mention that union city was 2nd again for the third year in a row.fulton may have been last 3 years ago then second in 2006 tied with union city and # 1 2007. looks like we have made progress without having to BUY players. cant waite for the hounds to come to fulton with all their fleas, better bring your flea collar...

  12. The UC bunch thinks they can buy anything. They buy players. Their web-site talks about how much they have spent on their ballfield and that it is the best in the league. What they have NEVER understood is you cannot buy CLASS. Thank goodness, our organization has been run as a class organization all along.

I think UC is trying to come up with excuses in advance for losing the playoffs. Just think, after they lose, they can always say, "if Fulton had let us play in UC, blah, blah, blah....."

WE need to be sure they have the opportunity to continue crying by waxing them good Friday and Saturday. Come on Railroader fans.....come to Lohaus tonight and tomorrow and help our team WIN BIG. Let's keep the hounds' tails between their legs!

  18. Randy Morgan you should make sure that Fulton is put on the website as the Pennant winners. No by virtue of being League President you should insist that this be done. You make sure that all the balls we use have your name on them don't you. Our guys fought hard and won it fair and without buying players. As for everyone else you can rest assured that if the shoe would have been on the other foot thoes arrogant fans from Union City would have made us forfiet if we didnt follow the league rules that by the way they agreed too months ago. I may call our Dog Catcher and have him come to the game tonight so he can put the hounds in his cage and carry them crying back to Union City. As for you Kevin report the whole story. Union City scheduled the Tournament not us. They would not have played the next night if the role was reversed. Git a grip UC Crybabies. You better bring your A-Game tonight.

  19. A man walks into a pet store and wants a muzzle for his dog. The clerk shows him all the muzzles available, numbering 30 or more.
Large, small, all colors, expensive, inexpensive, the whole works. The man is undecided on which to choose. He asks if he can take the muzzles,to try on his dog, to be sure. "Certainly!", says the clerk, confident of a sale to the man. The man gathers up the muzzles, and leaves the store, pledging to return in about an hour. "No problem", says the clerk, happy to help.
An hour later, the man returns with all the muzzles, and the clerk says, "So, which one do you need, sir?". The man, looking disappointed, responds, "I won't be taking ANY of these, I'm afraid....." The clerk, upset, says,...."Well, sir, what is the problem? Are they not the quality you expected, or perhaps the wrong color? Are they too expensive???
The man responds, "Oh, no, they are just fine, a good selection and good price, but here's the problem,, I tried them all, and they don't fit at all!" The clerk says, "How could that be sir, our selection is the best around!" And the man replies, "Yes, but you see, I'm trying to fit a GREYHOUND, and I can't get it over his BIG MOUTH!!!"

  22. Don't have a dog or railroader in this fight. Coming from out of State and not being familiar with the disdain these two communities have for each other I must make at least one observation.

The players on both teams come to your communities to play baseball. The bad blood your towns have for each other having nothing to do with the players. In fact, some of the Railroaders are college teammates of the UC players.

I read the accusations on this blog that UC buys players. I don't believe there is a shread of prove of this.

One thing is for sure the kids from both teams will remember this experience the rest of their lives. Do you want them to remember your towns as name callers and and finger pointers or do you want them to remember your towns as good baseball towns full of good people.

You've got a good thing going here don't blow it. Quite frankly, I was impressed with this league until the incident at Tradewater and the recent posts on this blog.

  23. Again from someone outside the area. UC does have the best facility hands down. I'm actually envious of them.
